The Broad Ripple Brewpub was established in 1990 by Englishman John Hill, born in Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, and his wife Nancy, a Hoosier native. It is Indiana’s very first brewpub (a restaurant that brews its own beer) and the oldest operating brewery in the state. The Brewpub was designed to recreate a typical English pub with its dark wood paneling, decorative tin ceiling, and cozy fire place. The Brewpub has one of the largest outdoor cafes in the Village, seating up to seventy people.
The parking lot is flat and small, but there are street spots around the area, including angled spots directly across the street. There is only one handicap spot in the lot. The entry may be a bit difficult if you have to open the door while in a wheelchair, but the people are super helpful, so don't hesitate to ask.
Once inside, the areas are open enough to move around, provided it isn't a weekend evening. It does tend to fill up. This is a popular place, but the crowd is more mature than you would expect to find in a typical bar, so most patrons will offer assistance or clear an aisle if needed.
When the weather is nice, the Brewpub prides itself on having one of the largest outdoor seating areas in the area. And that area is completely dog friendly. The owners are animal lovers, so there would be no problems with assistance animals.
Located down a hall in the rear of the building, the restrooms are clean and easy to navigate, with adequate accessibility features. The facilities allow for multiple patrons, so lines are rare, even at peak hours.
